so very four

So, over in the Studio Calico community I jumped right in to participate in a scrap lift the person above you challenge.  I had the privledge of lifting Marti -- and I chose this page of hers.  

I had this photo laying on my desk, one I had intended for something else but it didn't get used.  Still being a favorite, I thought I could use it in the lift of Marti!  Her page was so fun with all the 4's -- I couldn't wait to get started.  I used my Daydream Believer kit that is *THIS* close to being gone...maybe another page or two left.  (So far with the main kit and 2 add ons I've made 14 pages and 3 cards)

Quite a simple page, but I love the 4's and the photo - so it all turned out well!

it's a boy thing...

Okay.  First things first.  Today, my youngest wanted to play trains upstairs with me.  So, he brought some tracks up from the basement and we went to work, on the floor in the sunroom, building a small track for his trains.  It so happens that it was bright and sunny -- and the sunroom gets great light! (Hence, the name sunroom! HA!) Anyway, I digress.  I snapped a few great photos of him playing with his trains -- these were basically only sharpened, straight out of camera otherwise.

I told you, great light!  

I was inspired by these photos, I couldn't get over just how boy he looked right here...so -- I was inspired to play along with the Sunday Sketch over at Studio Calico with these photos!  

If you can't read the title it says "It's a boy thing you wouldn't understand" -- IRL the title pops off the page -- in the photo, not so much.

The Silhouette got a great work out here -- and I had some fun! 

the best part about christmas

Yes, I'm still talking about Christmas.  I mean, I want to scrap these photos!  So, for this weeks Elle's Studio sketch challenge I decided to scrap some more Christmas photos. Actually, I used the same October Afternoon Holiday Style paper, too.  I did this because I can AND because I seriously just love it.  

The best part about Christmas?  Christmas morning.  (though Christmas Eve might be more magical and special!) All of your dreams come true and Santa really came.  It's such a delight being a momma on Christmas morning!

It's a THRILL to me because I'm always knocked off my chair when someone likes something I made.  SERIOUSLY.  When a page/card in my gallery or on my blog gets a positive comment I'm bowled over.  Someone likes something I made?!  WOW.  I'm also quite surprised when I LOVE something I make.  I expect to love stuff others make -- but when I do, I'm just so tickled!  I've been making stuff I love a lot more lately, so I just keep making more and more to keep the high going!

Anyway, fighting a cold...that's why no post over the weekend -- but I'll be back with something new tomorrow!

Silly Faces

Oh this boy...he is wild, crazy and much older than his 4 years.  He can be a real sweetie, and I know under that big boy exterior is a very sweet, caring soul.  Unfortunately, we spend a lot of our time WILD and CRAZY -- lots of yelling and discipline.  We also have a lot of FUN.  And, silly faces.

All Studio Calico Daydream Believer, Stepping Stone and Lady Lane.  Mix those with a Simple Scrapper Premium Membership template and you've got a fun page about a mostly fun boy!

vintage inspired fun!

Hey!  I thought I would share with you a few pages I've made lately with my Vintage Street Market goodies!

Since I have 3 boys, I’m always looking for fun, gender neutral ways to record and preserve our memories.  There are really a lot of fun elements from Vintage Street Market that do the job.  Looking for some fun and festive ways to make cheerful pages for a birthday?

Quite easy to make a cheery page with the yellow crepe sheets and printed paper sheets (from theParty Games Sheets and Tags!) plus Twirly Twine and Printed Tickets!

Perhaps it’s not birthdays, but a general sense of contentment — or enjoyment you’re after.  It’s easy to create, as well.

Lots to love here including bingo craft cards, vintage tickets, twirly twine, tinted tape and family fun patterned paper!  I included journaling from my vintage typewriter that enhanced the overall feel of the page!

So, festive and contented have been covered — what about plain fun?  That’s where the Party Games Paper Sheets & Tags come in again!  I was able to create a page about our fun playing candyland with little else than this kit!

I love a bit of vintage flair in my home, and now I have some vintage/retro inspired pages, too.  Not too much, just the right amount.  I thought it was easy to mix other basics with the Vintage Street Market stuff to make fun pages!

a day in the life

A couple of weeks back, Ali Edwards did a day in the life thing...photograph your day.  I don't usually do too many of Ali's prompts any more -- they don't fit in usually with my schedule or style.  (Though, I do plan on doing a week in the life this spring, it's been a couple of years since I've done it!)  However, I had nothing else going on this day...so I figured I'd play along.

Let me just say this.  Aside from the cute paper, this page is nothing special.  That was my whole point -- an ordinary page about an ordinary day.  I used this weeks Studio Calico sketch (I LOVED the original and it's NOT ordinary) and it was perfect for what I was doing. A few photos, a few pieces of patterned paper, a few drops of mist and voila!  A page about an ordinary day! 

See?  Nothing earth shattering here...just an ordinary page about an ordinary day...and I love that!

christmas eve

I know, I know...it's now in that odd time -- after Valentines Day and before St. Patrick's Day. No real holidays in the near future and CERTAINLY well after Christmas.

Nonetheless, I have a Christmas page to share.  I've scrapped nearly none of my Christmas photos (mostly related to the fact that I was waiting on the Christmas supplies of choice to arrive).  Now, I've got a page to share.  Inspired by this weeks Elle's Studio sketch ... using some of my favorite Elle's supplies plus a few others.  

It's a great sketch, right?  And those strips?  PERFECT.

I'm loving this -- Ella's Take Twelve

Whoa boy...who knew we'd blow through the 12th and find ourselves well on the other side at the 17th?!  Seriously?!  Anyway, yes it's the 17th and I'm finished with my page for Take Twelve.

Last month I showed you snow here (we've had none since) and this month I decided to create a layout about what I'm loving right now.  12 photos of what we did on the 12th that was GREAT!

A mix of iPhone photos and DSLR photos and my Studio Calico kit, Daydream Believer.  Loving two pagers for these Take Twelve pages, it really helps tell the whole story.

walking the dog

a lovely day calls for a walk.  if you have a dog, it's almost a must that you take the dog for a walk.  with the unseasonably warm winter weather we've been having - there have been a lot of walks in the last few weeks!

Using...you guessed it!  Daydream Believer by Studio Calico.  That kit is going a long way! I've already made 9 pages and 4 cards with it...showing no signs of slowing down! Good thing for me since I've got more ideas!

attention

Okay, I'm calling BS.  It's time that I call out what I see to be wrong or misleading.  You know what that is?  MYSELF!  I always say I need boyish supplies/dies/items but you know what?  The pages that end up being my favorites aren't always boyish.  And you know what else?  Sometimes the ultra feminine ones are perfect.  There, I said it.  I'm wrong -- boyish isn't what I need.  I needed a shift in attitude.  I will embrace girlier supplies and kits...realizing that it can all work out for wonderful pages.

I feel much better now.

Anyway.  This weeks sketch was wonderful, though I was wondering if it would be too sparse for me.  Nope, turned out just right!

And that American Crafts POW paper?  (I used caramel)  SERIOUSLY AMAZING.  Gorgeous.  Worth buying a sheet or two.  I love it.  I'm partial to caramel, but I bet they are all GREAT.

As you can see, I even used those frightening butterflies...and I'm proud to say that they are ALL GONE.  I like to get my monies worth with the kits, so I'm happy I found a way to use these dreaded creatures!
